Stimulating Brain and Body
In April/May 2009, I decided to read the Spring Schedule of classes from my local recreation centre and discovered some of the wonderful short (2 hrs or so) courses offered. They were both fabulous and very inexpensive (always looking for a bargain – that’s what attracted me!) I found out a very interesting and self-satisfying way to discover and try out something new. It also got me away from the 4 walls of my office for awhile!! Here are links to the classes I took.
* Learning made Easy – stimulating your brain using easy exercises, bean bags, balls etc. Robyn Mor (Mor Balance in Learning – a Brain Gym consultant) robyn_mor@yahoo.ca (more info and links below)
* Secrets to Changing Your Behaviour – Daniel Scott, Ph.d www.SoaringSuccess.ca
* Mind Clutter -teaching us not to think negative thoughts but to always focus on the positive; blaming others for our problems etc. Mario Biasio www.heart.ca
* various investment classes (many free) to further my knowledge in that area.
* I’m also taking a weekly exercise class (at last) … WOW … Women on Weights, using balls of all sizes and weights, weight bars etc. All light exercise and adapted for each person’s abilities. Getting up and down off the floor was difficult with my knee replacements and Judy adapted these exercises to suit me. This is 1/week so you need to remember to practice at home
Add these to the Tapping (EFT) I learned earlier and follow at Try It On Everything where you will learn about this simple technique that enables you to change your life by relieving pain, stress, lack of confidence issues etc.
Exercise for mental fitness: Brain Gym, About ESL and here’s an interesting bit from an article on latter site and, just because it mentions people over 65, doesn’t mean YOU shouldn’t start when you’re younger
“In a study of 5925 women aged 65 or older, researchers found that women with high levels of physical activity were less likely to experience cognitive decline over a 6- to 8-year period.
Another study showed that men who walked less than a mile a day had a 71% greater risk for dementia than men who walked 2 miles or more daily. Studies have also shown that people over the age of 65 who exercise regularly have a lower risk of cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease.”
I now have many stimulating activities to get and keep my mind and body more active. Try some of them for yourself … I dare you!!!!

Tapping for Health and Success
If you’re interested in health then you need to discover EFT Tapping. I discovered it six weeks ago at a seminar and was immediately intrigued as it claimed to be able to teach you how to rid yourself of pain and my wrists/arms were aching that day from my repetitive strain injury. Amazingly, the tapping exercise seemed to work and so I continued to repeat it when needed.
Today, I am rarely bothered by those same pains and now am learning to use tapping to help me in other areas of my life. I researched it on the web and joined an online group through the link given below… the EFT World Summit. On this website, different tapping methods were featured for 9 days as various EFT practitioners were interviewed about their work in many areas of health and wellness.
What an amazing Summit! I had no idea this tapping method even existed so I tried to take part as much as possible. Fortunately, we also had the opportunity to purchase copies of these videos, (of course!) as well as other bonus interviews, and after much research and hearing some of the sessions, I decided to take advantage of their offer. I can now burn them onto cd and listen to them whenever I want. Testimonials tell how tapping can be life-changing if utilized correctly and often … and I intend to do just that.

My Personal Spa
Jeesh, I’m multi-tasking like crazy with hardly time to breathe, but need to update my life.
I feel great!!! I am holding my weight loss within 3 lbs., thanks to Isagenix and trying very hard to eat more often to fool my brain so it doesn’t go into the wrong mode (those ‘Isagenix Snacks’ are my lifesaver). I’m also eating my Xocai chocolates every day. I have to keep reminding myself how great I look and feel so I don’t get discouraged (I can be sooo hard on myself) that I’ve not dropped another 5 pounds. Is my body telling me to stop as I’m within 10 lbs of my lowest adult weight. I’m still not doing very well with the exercise but do stretches from time to time, ride my stationery bike a bit and have lots of plans … oh my
My back, arm and hand problems are under control thanks to my wonderful chiropractor, Anna Cabrita, and her helpful advice, my Nikken wrist bands, a new Nikken magnetic bracelet and the spa I treat myself to regularly!! (See next paragraph.) It’s an uphill battle every day as I sit so many hours at this blessed computer – a curse I need for my job as an author and publisher.
One thing I have discovered recently is a fabulous 5 minute treat – a self-initiated back rub with my new massaging shower head (when you are alone or your hubbie is never home at the right time, this is a godsend!) My old shower head needed replacing and this one seems to have a little motor in it that has a very powerful centre jet. It’s handheld and going up and down my sore spine sets me up for the morning (to save water I don’t use it every day though).
That’s it for now … I’m off to the chiropractor – trying to remember to go once a month for prevention now … before I get so sore I can’t sit anymore!
Here’s to YOUR good health

Form of colloidal silver ban proposed in USA
I just came across this information about Nano Silver (apparently smaller particles than colloidal silver) and what rubbish … the info not the silver!! If you are familiar with colloidal silver and agree that it is harmless (with proper usage ie., silver man did not use properly), or want to investigate further, you should check out this website . This has been tried before and defeated probably due to the outcry from the public … read and help spread the good news about colloidal (or Nano) silver.
Our family has used colloidal silver since 1996 with amazing results (see links to right in earlier posts):
- Robert and I haven’t had a serious case of cold, flu, infection, or stomach upset since 1996.
- In 2007, I nursed my cat’s deep head wound (from a raccoon, I think) which healed in 2 weeks when I thought I was to watch him die instead … with no vet bills! for the first week I tried salves, head-cone etc, but then I only applied colloidal silver 3x daily or more if he’d let me and that did the trick. I had to watch him though as he had scratched it until it was so deep I could see the muscle tissue etc. In desperation I worked out his schedule. When he got bored and scratched at it, I was there to put on some more colloidal silver – figuring it was healing from within and causing him aggravation.
- Used topically for bruises (works better and faster than ice).
- Used topically for burns (keep near stove), stuffed nose or sinusitis (drip a drop into nose), sinus allergy causing mucous in throat (swallow 1 tsp- 1 T).
- eye problems (1 drop in eye)
- and there are so many more …
Join me in protesting this proposal (by drug company reps??) to ban nano silver as a pesticide, by signing the petition at this website.

My grandmother told me to ’sit up straight’ and I didn’t listen …
You know, the older we get, the wiser we realize those older people in our lives are/were. I now think that tendinitis and, even perhaps carpal tunnel, may be prevented by better posture. These injuries (and others) have become so prolific in our society and now in my life … I just have to talk about it.
It all began about 25 years ago when I noticed how sore my fingers were when typing in the morning. After monitoring it for some weeks, I realized they were worse after snacking the night before–my snacking in those days was mainly candy. It took many years to change my eating habits as I used it for company and for solace, always telling myself ‘I just love food!’ Lesson No. 1 – don’t eat sugar and salty snacks.
This belief has followed me through life’s ups and downs until 9 years ago I was diagnosed with ‘almost’ having fibromyalgia (FM). Having talked to many with FM in their lives as well as trying to understand the pain of a close friend trying to deal with this hidden yet debilitating illness, I immediately told myself I was never going to allow myself to have it, I simply didn’t have time!! I had just published my husband’s first novel and there was no way I could stop for any illness, no matter what it was.
I always remember my mother’s reaction to illness–’forget it and get on with your life,’ was her motto. As a child who had pulled a boiling kettle onto herself, her mother, in desperation I imagine, took her to visit the local children’s hospital. My mother admitted that at the age of about 10, she decided to never complain again … and I don’t think she ever did, certainly not to friends or family and rarely to me even in her aging years. Even at her funeral, many of her friends told me they hadn’t realized she’d had health problems, let alone a triple bypass many years before and diabetes.
She was an amazing role model … but that didn’t quite end the lesson for me. In 1977, I met my future husband Robert and, being a man who has had more lives than a cat (see his bio), I soon found myself in the company of another person who did not complain about their aches and pains!! Even as he fought for his life in 1994-6 from the ravages of a serious staph infection, he rarely allowed himself to feel sorry for himself and always had a smile and a joke for me.
So where does this leave us … the women in my family seem to be able to work through their pain (my sister has had more than her share and now my daughter is showing signs of the same affliction (working through the pain, I mean), yet, as I listen to Oprah, this apparently is not so unusual for women. With families and jobs to deal with, we have no time to do anything else as we multi-task like there is no tomorrow. So it can fester in our subconscious and unless we stop and realize how serious our situation really is, an issue can go untreated for years and make us so miserable it can even ruin family life.
Fortunately, I have at last learned to change my old snacking habits of yesteryear, but now I am dealing with Repetitive Strain Injuries in my hands and arms and I know it’s not caused by my sugar/salt consumption. My daughter is also having this type of problem, similar but somewhat different from mine. My massage therapist successfully used acupuncture on me some years back and was ‘very concerned’ that I needed to look after myself. But costs were prohibitive and not covered by my medical, so I continued to visit my chiropractor for relief, keeping the back and arm/hand pain barely in control. I purchased a Dr. Ho massager, and many Nikken products (TENS, Kenko, magnets, infra-red), using them all and they all helped. I still use some of them. My right forearm was diagnosed as having de Quervaines about 6 years ago and internet research told me Vitamin B6 would help it … and it did and does. Now, however, both of my forearms seem to have muscle issues.
So, what am I doing now? I’m back to the chiropractor and realizing that my posture may be a large part of the problem. I don’t stand upright, I hunch in a chair, or sit in awkward positions, and I lean over my computer. I should have taken heed with my grandmother’s warning when I was very young … ‘Sit up straight!’ she used to tell me. Did I listen, yes, but it’s taken 50 more years to do it!! Now I think I am paying the price. Lesson No. 2: Listen to Grandma, she does know a lot!
What is an ORAC Value?
What on earth is that, you ask. It’s something developed in Maryland USA and tells you the anti-oxidant level of common foods. You don’t know what anti-oxidants are … well, it’s time you googled the word and studied it. This info is very, very interesting and absolutely necessary if you are trying to improve your health. It’s especially interesting to me because the chocolates I am eating rate so HIGH on the ORAC List, I think everyone should be eating them, and apparently many others agree.
The company that makes these chocolates has been around for a long time and used to sell them in WalMart stores. The owner, Jeanette Brooks, decided to update them and came up with this fabulous product now marketed internationally under the name MXI via multi-level marketing and making money for countless thousands of distributors. If you’d like to know how you can make money from this company, or just more info on the chocolates and ORAC values, check out my website and contact me for further info.

Healthy Chocolates … what?!
Yup, that’s what I said … and they’re hitting North America, and the world, by storm. The company is Xocai and their chocolate products are to die for. Imagine not having to make excuses for eating chocolate ever again.
I discovered Xocai chocolate nuggets (with antioxidant rich Acai berry and blueberry powders and fat busting cocoa) last summer and immediately purchased my first box. I already knew the value of a good antioxidant in my diet and fighting a chocolate habit and figuring if these were healthy chocolates, I had to have it! I have now discovered this is the answer for millions of other chocolate lovers (especially those who are trying to lose weight).
I have no way of knowing how much these chocolates have helped me to lose my 30+ lbs reported in earlier blog entries, but I know they have helped because I’m told it has the ability to stabilize blood sugar and as I have a terrible sweet tooth, diets are usually very difficult for me. My experience has been made so much easier with these Xocai chocolates … at least I can still have a safe ‘treat’ and know it is actually making me healthier.
I need to clarify one thing … for some time the media has been telling us that DARK CHOCOLATE is healthy for us. So naturally, I stopped eating anything but dark chocolate and thought I was doing the best for my body. Little did I know that the important thing is how the chocolate is processed (and the ingredients).
With Xocai, (the company is MXI) I have been assured that the process is extraordinary … and HALLELUIA … just this week our Nuggets, Omega Squares and Xpower Squares have been given the seal of approval by Health Canada! Canada just doesn’t make rash decisions about health products so this is very, very exciting for me and my fellow health aficionados in this great country.
As I am very much into alternative health, this is so exciting and I want to spread the word about this wonderful taste sensation that is healthy Xocai chocolate. I believe it is an amazing choice for both a health product, a food and a business. Thus, I have decided to become a distributor so I can share it with you.
So why don’t you check out my Xocai website where you can get even more information and/or email me at joyce@joycesandilands.com

Weight loss update – still hangin in
Okay, it seems I’ve gotten a bit behind as it’s been almost a month since I reported in. I’ve stabilized my weight at 158-160 on an almost normal eating regime now and, very happy about that, even though I realize I still have 10-20 lbs. to lose (those pesky midrift rolls) as well as many inches (yes I need to increase my stretching/exercise regime … it’s coming very slowly). In the meantime, I have come to some conclusions …
1. The Isagenix cleansing program is a great program especially if you want some quick but healthy results. As far as I can see (from research and personal trial) and feel (by listening to my body which I’ve gotten quite good at over the past 20+ years!) … they have more than one option for the use of their products depending on what results you want. I’m trying to choose words carefully here as I have many friends in Isagenix! I love the products and the fact that they are balanced nutritionally and have lots of antioxidants for cleansing. I already purchase some similar products (vitamin/mineral supplement, protein powder, anti-oxidants etc) from Goldshield-Elite, but I have never found it easy to get into the habit of remembering to take them every day and despite this I know they have been instumental for my own good health and high energy levels. I have not tried their newer line of diet products but some years ago when they contained ephedra they were great for me! My husband, however, has used their products (other than diet) religiously since 1996 when multiple surgeries laid him very low. He has had amazing health since his recovery in 1998 and he is still going strong at age 76 despite the battering his body has sustained over the years. I know these products have helped me as well despite not taking them religiously.
My experiece after 40 years of gaining/losing through childbirth, overeating ( never really psycho-analyzed myself enough to find out if there really is a deep-seated root cause!), is that I have to be very, very cautious — I don’t want to put it all back on again. Yes, I’m feeling so much better (knees too) and looking so great, but I don’t want to screw it up again
I am working through my own issues and eating a whole lot better than I did 10 years ago. Let me add that Isagenix has some wonderful protein snacks which I have in my kitchen, car and office. They do a great number on my in-between-meal light-headed attacks and the effect of even one of these 20 cal/1 g. protein wafers is magical. I discussed my hypoglycemia in an earlier post – you don’t play around with light-headedness … trust me, your body is telling you something extremely important and after age 40, you better be listening if you want a long, healthy life.
2. I can recommend you to a great Isagenix leader if you are interested in persuing this program but feel free to check out my Isagenix website for no-pressure information. I won’t even know you’re there
I firmly believe it’s the support group effort that is the deciding factor that enables many of us to stay on these weight loss programs.
3. My time is precious as I am still working an 8-12 hour day writing/producing my husband’s bestselling novels so I don’t need another multi-level marketing program in my life. Goldshield-Elite and their Changes nutritional supplements have been in my life for a long time as mentioned above but I will continue to use many of the Isagenix products for my own use, as and when I desire.
Just a little aside here … if you’ve been doing the flu dance with your family this winter/year, it’s time you discovered colloidal silver. My husband and I rarely get a hint of colds or flu because we take it regularly. And don’t listen to the nay-sayers who talk about that ’silver-coloured man’. He was drinking something that was made very differently (and incorrectly) and too much of it, which he admitted. Put ‘colloidal silver’ in the search box to the right or click on ‘colloidal silver’ in the Categories List for our experiences with colloidal silver.
So that’s my update for now. Thanks for hangin in with me!

Trials of a weight loss junkie!
I have to keep reminding myself that I had another good day today … my weight was still 158 but I’m feeling good and not hungry at all. I know how to deal with my light-headedness now (with ‘Snacks’, extra water and 6 almonds/day). I also tried on 4 pair of slacks today, got rid of 2 of them as too huuuge … hurrah!! Fit into my old designer jeans with a little slackness and fit a pair of chords I’d never worn because I bought them two years ago (on sale, too small!). Yes, that was encouraging.
On the other hand, it’s having a light dinner that’s become difficult this week and I’ve been hungry around 9pm. It’s taken me 24 hrs. to work that out but amazingly, I’m okay tonight. Maybe a good night sleep would help too, I’ve been staying up too late.
I’m doing a few more stretches during the day but it still can’t be considered as exercise yet.
I found out today that I could add some of the Isagenix cleanse formula to my regular diet program … I woke up with a backache for the first time in a long time (used to be a regular thing), maybe this will help. I have to remind myself that the longer I’m on this costs me more $$ in product. So we’ll see what happens tomorrow
